The vision for Kuzuko Lodge in the Eastern Cape was to create a Big Five safari game park which combines conservation, job creation and social transformation in a malaria-free area in South Africa.
The area in the small Karoo where Kuzuko Lodge is located was chosen for its unique vegetation and beauty as well as for being an area where over 70% of the people were unemployed and extreme poverty was widespread.
The task was three-fold: build a unique lodge, create jobs and allow the area to revert to its original habitat. Thus Kuzuko was born, and became the first private game reserve to be incorporated into the Greater Addo Elephant Park, the third largest national park in South Africa, giving it traversing rights over 1 million acres.

Kuzuko Lodge has several highly qualified and permanently employed field guides. These field guides possess a vast array of knowledge skills in bird identification, plant identification, geology, history, animal behaviour, conservation principles and ideology. Our guides share this knowledge with our guests on game drives, game walks, interpretive walks, bushman painting exploration and during stargazing.
Throughout your internship you will shadow our field guides while they conduct various wildlife related activities. You will find out just what it takes to be a field guide on a Big 5 game reserve.
Our Foundation is doing fantastic work with local school children and you will have a chance to become part of this – giving you the opportunity to leave a bit of your legacy here as well.
